Letting Go

18 Stop dwelling on the past.
Don’t even remember these former things.
19 I am doing something brand new, something unheard of.
Even now it sprouts and grows and matures.
Don’t you perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness
and open up flowing streams in the desert.
20 Wild beasts, jackals, and owls will glorify me.
For I supply streams of water in the desert
and rivers in the wilderness
to satisfy the thirst of my people, my chosen ones
— Isaiah 43:18-20
For I will restore health to you, and your wounds I will heal, declares the Lord..
— Jeremiah 30:17

What is more difficult in life than letting something go?

Letting go of past pain can some times be as painful as the pain that you’re trying to forget. Past traumatizing events in our life can haunt us for years. But the keyword here is “past.” The past can grab a hold of you, and make it difficult for you to live in the present. Maybe you’ve had a friendship that went bad or an event that happened in your family that stays with you like it happened yesterday.
You can’t let it go.
Letting go doesn’t mean what happened doesn’t matter or what they did was okay, and of course, letting it go isn’t as easy as it sounds, but God has assured us that He’s got our backs! Not only is He a healer, but He’s also a restorer. That means physical wounds, mental wounds and emotional wounds.
Today, give yourself the opportunity to let it go.
It starts with really identifying what it is that your holding on to. Take a second to think about it. Maybe you don’t have anything today, but, believe me, one day you will.
Take a look at what the prophet Isaiah has to say about letting go. He tells us to stop dwelling in the past because God is doing something brand new in you! Right now, God is trying to sprout something fresh in your life, but in order to give way to what’s coming, you have to let go of what happened.
It happened.
It hurt.
That might not change, but YOU can.
Ask God to help you let this go and to know that you can’t do this on your own. God is here to help you move on, not for the benefit of anyone else but you.
